Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has rejected claims that Tehran is pursuing a nuclear weapon as a false excuse of the West.

Talking to a group of nuclear officials and scientists in Tehran, he said Islamic values prevent Iran from pursuing a weapon of mass destruction.

Khamenei emphasized that cooperation with the UN nuclear watchdog must continue in compliance with a law passed by the Iranian parliament that paved the way for advancing Iran's nuclear programme.
