Lt Gen (Retd) Asif Yasin Malik (Defense Analyst): The armed forces in any country are responsible to implement the policies devised by the government or state. The present Indian government is adopting the policy of suppressing the freedom struggle of Kashmiris. The Indian forces are using every brutal tactic to derail the focus of Kashmiris but so far it has badly failed. China has also supported the narrative of Pakistan on Kashmir dispute. Basically, western powers exclude China because of its economic emergence so these powers are supporting India in all forms either in IIOJ&K or in the region to counter China but the importance of China in the region and across the globe can never be ignored.
Dr. Huma Baqai (IR Expert): It’s a very critical time, an equation is being built between US and China and Iran is being given a status in SCO which means that Iran’s global isolation is nearing its end. Chinese defiance of an imposed order of the west is now quite evident. The SCO meeting is an important meeting which is going to yield positive results. India and Pakistan both initially had observers’ status and then both were given permanent membership status but the thing to notice is that how India is going to react after the Afghanistan developments.
Abdullah Gul (Defense Analyst): Few months earlier, United Nations published two reports on human right violations committed by India in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir but unfortunately no concrete steps have been taken by the world to force India to stop its aggressive policies in the valley. It is also unfortunate that United States is completely supporting India to continue its policies. The Indian forces are committing worst brutalities in IIOJ&K, using rape as weapon of war, killing young Kashmiris yet the Kashmiris are determined to continue their freedom struggle at all costs. Pakistan has presented a dossier of 131 pages clearly indicating Indian atrocities in IIOJ&K and within India. We should also present this dossier at international forums and it is responsibility of the international community to take notice of Indian acts. China is an emerging economic power and Pakistan has strong relations with China. United States is supporting India to counter China in the region.
Naghmana Hashmi (Former Ambassador): Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit was much awaited and is now going to be held at a very critical time. After the withdrawal of NATO forces from Afghanistan, the regional situation has completely changed. The decision of the summit will be helpful in addressing the regional issues. Pakistan is a permanent member of this organization and its narrative on Afghan issue is being appreciated and acknowledged by the world. We have always supported Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace process. Peaceful and stable Afghanistan is the best interest of all the regional stakeholders. China, Russia, Iran, Pakistan and central Asian states must support Afghanistan in order to avoid humanitarian crises there. The members of SCO are responsible to devise strategies to support Afghan government in capacity building and economic development in war-torn country. China and Pakistan welcomed Afghan government to become the part of China Pakistan Economic Corridor project. The Afghan people cannot afford anarchy and chaos in the country at this point of time. The joint declaration of SCO summit will be very important as far as current regional situation is concerned.
