Dr Zahid Anwar (International Relations Expert):
Pakistan and Azerbaijan enjoy friendly bilateral relations which established when the Republic of Azerbaijan became independent following the collapse of the USSR. Azerbaijan is an oil rich country and all the countries want to establish relations with it. There is a convergence of interests between Pakistan and Azerbaijan on various issues. Pakistan supports Azerbaijan on the issue of Nagorno-Karabakh. Pakistan Turkey and Azerbaijan are on one page on the issue of Nagorno-Karabakh. Pakistan relations with Azerbaijan with respect to trade and economy will further strengthen in future. Azerbaijan is a land locked country and regional connectivity projects will be beneficial for Azerbaijan. The future of bilateral relations of Pakistan and Azerbaijan is bright.
Dr Muhammad Zubair (IR Expert): As we know that the world is moving from geo Strategic to geo-economic policies, therefore we have to focus on the economic development rather the geo-strategy. Pakistan-Turkey-Azerbaijan’s possible bloc is very important but we have to take into account the history of Pakistan’s foreign policy. Pakistan suffered a lot due to the bloc politics in the past. We have to make sure that we should not be engaged in a political bloc. Azerbaijan is in dispute with Armenia and other it’s neighboring countries so is the case with Turkey. So far the economic blocs are concerned they are very much important. Pakistan supports Azerbaijan on Nagorno-Karabakh issue and Azerbaijan in turn supports Pakistan on Kashmir issue. As part of such economic blocs we should not support each other in military adventures. The purpose of the economic blocs is to promote peace and resolve disputes through dialogue.
