Irfan Siddiqui urges govt to resolve financial issues of Radio Pakistan
June 13, 2023

Senator Irfan-ul-Haq Siddiqui has urged the government to resolve financial issues of Radio Pakistan as this national institution is facing financial crises.

Speaking in the Senate on Tuesday, he made it clear that Radio is not a commercial entity in any part of the world. It is not a money-making enterprise like the Pakistan International Airlines or the Pakistan Steel Mills.

The Senator said Radio always draws funds from the government. He said even the British Broadcasting Corporation receives funding from the state and collects a license fee.

He said that the license fee for Radio Pakistan has been abolished long ago in the country and now government funding is the only source remaining with the state broadcaster.

He emphasized the need to evolve a mechanism to address the woes of the serving and the retired employees of Radio Pakistan.

He urged the House to look into the matter and help the poor employees and pensioners of Radio Pakistan.

Senator Syed Waqar Mehdi also called for addressing the issues of Radio Pakistan’s employees on priority basis.

He proposed that the Radio license fee should be restored.
