PM directs to utilize all resources to protect people from Cyclone "Biparjoy"

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed to utilize all resources to protect people in the wake of Cyclone "BIPARJOY".

He made these directions while chairing a meeting in Islamabad today to review the evolving situation arising out of the storm.

The Prime Minister advised Sindh Government, National Disaster Management Authority and other relevant agencies to ensure the establishment of mobile hospitals along the coastal areas. He said sufficient emergency first aid should be ensured in areas likely to become affected by the cyclone.

He said special arrangements should be made for the provision of clean drinking water and food in the camps of displaced people in the wake of cyclone.

In a bid to tighten the measures against the storm, he ordered to constitute a committee under the chair of Minister of Climate Change Sherry Rehman in order to handle the situation arising in the view of possible emergence of "BIPARJOY". The committee is meant to give recommendations to deal with the hazards of storm.

Shehbaz Sharif further ordered Minister for Power Khurram Dastgir Khan to remain in the Southern Sindh till impacts of the cyclone recede. The Minister for Power was further directed to review the electricity transmission system in the coastal areas.

The Premier called for ensuring the complete evacuation of people from the coastal areas and to provide them assistance without any delay.

The meeting was briefed that the storm is likely to hit the Keti Bandar on Friday and will dilute in three days.

It was told that ninety percent of the evacuation has been completed from the areas prone to storm as over nine thousand families comprising fifty thousand people have been shifted to safer places.

The displaced people are being accommodated in government buildings and temporary camps where Pakistan Army and NDMA are providing food, tents, mosquito nets and clean drinking water with the collaboration of provincial governments.

The meeting was apprised that fishermen are being advised to not venture to the open sea, while efforts are being made to rescue the people trapped in the sea.
