Amb. Haroon Shaukat (Defence Analyst):Pakistan and Turkiye have centuries’ old time tested friendship. Therefore, visit of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir to Turkiye is very important in the background of evolving regional and international situation. Both Pakistan and Turkiye have stood by each other in almost every difficult time. Now both the countries have become two major pillars of stability in Middle East and region. Both have key and strong defence cooperation for bringing peace in Middle East. President Erdogan believes in strong ties with Muslim world. Turkiye has a strong naval force in the entire region; therefore, both Pakistan and Turkiye have strengthened their cooperation in maritime sector. At present a new dynamic is underway in Middle East due to tensions between the US and Iran. Pakistan will have to fill power vacuum in Middle East and Turkiye will have major role in this regard. Pakistan can also play role in easing differences between Iran and Gulf countries. Both Pakistan-Turkiye are already playing their due and strong role in easing tensions between the US and Iran. Iran and Gulf countries must understand that their mutual confrontation does not serve anyone’s interests. So, both sides must avoid targeting each other to have a lasting peace and order in the region.
