The 4th death anniversary of renowned newscaster of Radio Pakistan and Pakistan Television, Surayya Shahab was observed on Wednesday.

She had done her Masters in Journalism and Political Science and was one of the pioneer newscasters of the country.

Surayya Shahab started her broadcasting career in the early 60s with Radio Pakistan. Later she went to Iran and joined Radio Iran, Zahedan.

In 1973, she returned to Pakistan and joined Radio Pakistan and PTV as a newsreader.

Later, Surayya Shahab joined BBC Urdu Service in mid 1980s. She was the first Radio Pakistan's newscaster who was selected for BBC Urdu and shifted to London. She also worked for Voice of Germany in the late 90s.

Surayya Shahab died on this day in 2019 at the age of 75 due to protracted illness.
