North Korea has test-fired its first solid-fuel intercontinental ballistic missile to promote the country's nuclear counterattack capability.

North Korean state media said Leader Kim Jong Un observed the test saying the missile will advance nuclear response posture and further support an aggressive military strategy against rivals.

He said the system would defend the country in detering invasions and preserve safety as its most powerful goal.
