China has expressed concern over Canadian Prime Minister's remarks accusing Beijing of arbitrarily sentencing a Canadian national to death for drug smuggling.
The remarks came after a Chinese court sentenced a Canadian national to death for drug smuggling.
The Canadian Prime Minister said the incident has aggravated already icy relations between the two countries.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying at a regular news briefing in Beijing termed the comments irresponsible and said it lack the most basic awareness of the legal system.
