Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar has directed the officials concerned to accelerate pace of work on road infrastructure development projects across the country.
Chairing a meeting of different ministries in Islamabad on Tuesday, he said better road infrastructure plays pivotal role in the development of any country.
He commended the role of the National Highway Authority in the construction and monitoring of roads in the country.
The Prime Minister said road infrastructure needs to be built on a priority basis in parts of the country where foreign investment is expected.
He said special focus is needed on road infrastructure work in Balochistan.
Anwaar ul Haq Kakar also issued directions to restart the construction of Karachi-Chaman highway. He said linking roads of Balochistan with other provinces should be improved.
On the occasion, the Prime Minister was given a detailed briefing on the ongoing development projects of the National Highway Authority.
The meeting was told that the repair work of the 282-meter-long Sawar Bridge is in the final stages, while traffic was not stopped due to the lack of an alternative route.
The meeting was further told that work on reconstruction of this bridge will also be started soon, in which the required period has been estimated at 6 months.
On the occasion, the Prime Minister also directed authorities to prepare and present a briefing on proposed projects.
