The United States has denounced continuing targeted attacks against Muslims and other minorities in India that are outlined in its 2022 report on the state of religious freedom.

Talking to newsmen in Washington, a senior State Department official said the United States called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government to hold the perpetrators accountable.

He said the report on state of religious freedom is seen as a blow to India's standing in the international community, as it prepares to hold G-20 meetings across the country, including in the occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

The senior State Department official said in this report it is mentioned that targeted attacks still continue against religious communities, including Christians, Muslims, Sikhs, and Dalits in India.

He said continuity of rhetoric, like open calls for genocide of Muslims, attacks on places of worship and demolitions of houses in India, is also a part of this report.
