Dr. Noor Fatima (Economist): The China Pakistan Economic Corridor is rapidly progressing with great pace and it was held with the same pace earlier. Both China and Pakistan have always given top priority to the completion of development projects under CPEC. China is a close friend of Pakistan and always came forward to support Pakistan during all challenges including Covid-19 pandemic and recent flooding in the country. It is a huge investment by China and other world countries involved, and we should appreciate such a fortune which is the game changer for us. The industrial sector of Pakistan needs to be developed under the umbrella of CPEC. If we are looking for more foreign investment in the country, we need to work with a greater planning by devising favorable economic policies for investors. Pakistan should also work on the energy projects on priority basis, so we can support our industries as well as move towards economic stability in the country.
Mushtaq Ahmed Mehr (Former Ambassador): The China Pakistan Economic Corridor costing around 60 billion dollar and divided into 6 vital sectors which includes communications, transportations, ports and shipping, industrialization, energy and bilateral trade. It has has far more potential than we think. Chinese were extremely keen of this project because of their interest in this project and wants to conclude it at earliest. Under the greater Belt and Road initiative, the success of CPEC will also enable China to link with Center Asia as well as West Asia and most importantly the hub of oil industry i.e. the Middle East including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, etc. Pakistan is working steadfastly to attain economic stability but the political instability in the region is creating more hurdles for them to grow.
