In Tajikistan, at least 17 people were killed and several missing as avalanches hit a number of border villages.

Dozens of houses were completely destroyed as the avalanches made many roads impassable in the region that borders China and Afghanistan.

Yesterday, the authorities reported 69 avalanches in a single day. They warn that there is a risk of more in the days to come.
