India has approved purchases of missiles, helicopters, artillery guns and electronic warfare systems worth 8.5 billion dollars.

The Defence Ministry in a statement said the Defence Acquisition Council approved the orders for all its services.

The list of purchases approved includes 200 additional BrahMos missiles, 50 utility helicopters and electronic warfare systems for the navy.
