China has refused to open its border with Afghanistan until its security concerns are addressed.

According to the Afghan news outlet AtlasPress News Agency China neither attended the inauguration ceremony of Wakhan Road nor formally recognised the project through diplomatic channels.

According to the Afghan media outlet, China remains concerned about border security and considers the East Turkestan Islamic Movement a threat to its Xinjiang region.
