Religious freedom facing severe crisis in India
October 04, 2026

In India, religious freedom is facing a severe crisis as the Modi-led government continues to tighten its grip on minority communities, leaving Christians subject to mounting restrictions.

According to a report by the British Broadcasting Corporation, anti-minority laws in India have brought Christian worship under strict surveillance.

The report reveals that Christians are now being forced to register their names and identity card details for verification before being allowed to perform religious services.

The religious minorities in India, particularly the Christian community, now feel unsafe even within their own places of worship.

Meanwhile, the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom has recommended designating India as a "Country of Particular Concern" due to systematic and ongoing violations of minority rights.
