The European Union has approved its ninth sanctions package against Russia to step up pressure on its economy in the wake of war in Ukraine.                               

In her series of tweets, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen welcomed the agreement on the fresh sanctions.                          

She said new sanctions package focuses on tech, finance and media to push the Russian economy and war machine further off the rails.
