Pakistan and World Bank have agreed to strengthen collaboration for building climate resilience in agriculture, water, energy and disaster risk reduction sectors.
The understanding was reached at a meeting between World Bank Country Director for Pakistan and South Asia Region, Najy Benhassine and Coordinator to Prime Minister on Climate Change, Romina Khurshid Alam in Islamabad today.
The two sides focused on addressing the growing climate-related challenges faced by Pakistan, including extreme weather events like floods, heatwaves, and droughts.
Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister's Coordinator said Pakistan is doing everything possible within its resources and capacity to tackle impacts of climate change.
She highlighted some major impacts of climate change including extreme temperatures, increased health risks, acute water shortages and exacerbating challenges in agriculture.
The World Bank Country Director took cognizance of Pakistan's escalating climate vulnerability and offered technical and financial support to help the country build resilience against climate-related risks.
He reiterated the Bank's commitment to support Pakistan's climate finance needs.
