Russia says it does not recognize the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court.

Commenting on the body's issuance of an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that Russia, as well as several other states, do not recognize the jurisdiction of the said court and any decisions of this kind are null and void for Russia in terms of law.

The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Russian President Vladimir and Russian children's rights commissioner Maria Lvova-Belova yesterday.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the court has failed to live up to the expectations placed on it and has not become a truly independent body of international justice.
