Analyst holds US, Iran responsible for renewed Gulf tensions
July 18, 2026

Amb. Waheed Ahmad (Former Diplomat):The renewed tension in gulf region between Iran and the US is due to role of sabotaging forces and Israeli ministers have openly admitted it. I think that after the signature of Islamabad Accord, both Iran and the US sides issued instigating statements and committed mistakes which resulted in renewed strikes. Iran side attacked vessels in Hormuz which brought the US under public pressure to respond. Now Iranian infrastructure is being destroyed in US strikes because Iran can’t stop missiles fired by the US. But the other side has capability to intercept the Iranian missiles. Unfortunately, whole Muslim region is being affected due to renewed tension. Iran is also badly affected by this escalation. Now the US has started targeting Iran’s civilian infrastructure because military targets are not visible to the US. Now it is clear that both sides are not willing to come to ceasefire and want show their might by hitting each other’s sites.
