At the United Nations, Pakistan has reaffirmed its unwavering support for Saudi Arabia's sovereignty, territorial integrity, security and prosperity.

The resolve was expressed by Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, while speaking at a UN Security Council Arria Formula meeting on "Safe Seas, Shared Security: Protecting Freedom of Navigation in an Evolving Security Environment" today.

The Ambassador also strongly condemned attacks by the Houthi militia on merchant shipping and seafarers in the Bab al-Mandab Strait.

He said that attacks on merchant vessels in the Bab al-Mandab and disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz have demonstrated that maritime crises could have far-reaching consequences for global peace, stability, energy security and food security.

Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad called for an immediate de-escalation of tensions, security of ships and crew members, and restoration of normal passage through the Strait.
