Waheed Ahmed (Former Ambassador): Human trafficking is an illegal process. We express sympathies with the grieved families of the victims of the Greece shipwreck incident. People want to send their children abroad for a better future. However, it should be through proper means and through a legal channel. It is need of the hour to create awareness amongst the masses about the consequences of illegal migration to other countries. Unfortunately, the international community is adopting a biased attitude towards the global issue of illegal migration.  A lot many people across the world die every year while crossing the borders illegally.

Dr. Rasheed Ahmed Khan (IR Expert): The shipwreck incident in Greece is highly tragic but fact of the matter is that it is not the first incident. It is the responsibility of the government and other agencies to take strict action against the culprits involved in human trafficking. There is no doubt that human smugglers prey on society’s vulnerable members and unfortunately the black sheep within the government apparatus also help facilitate these crimes. They should also be brought to justice. Human trafficking is one of the most heinous crimes and it robs the victims of their most basic human rights.
