Pakistan has called for sustained political support to ensure that United Nations peacekeeping remains relevant, effective and fit for purpose amid a changing international security environment.
This was stated by Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the UN Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad at the Security Council debate on United Nations Peacekeeping Operations in New York.
The Ambassador said that the United Nations must prepare today for the capabilities peacekeeping will need tomorrow.
Asim Iftikhar Ahmad also highlighted Pakistan's longstanding contribution to UN peacekeeping, with over 170,000 Pakistani peacekeepers having served under the UN flag and 183 having made the ultimate sacrifice for peace.
