Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed government's firm resolve to wipe out the menace of terrorism.
Chairing a meeting of National Action Plan's Apex Committee in Islamabad today [Tuesday], he said we have no other choice, but to crush the terrorist elements for peace and progress of the country.
Describing terrorism as the biggest challenge, Shehbaz Sharif voiced concerns over the uptick in terror attacks in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He recalled that the menace was eradicated back in 2018 due to the sacrifices of our people and security personnel through a consensus plan formulated under the leadership of Nawaz Sharif.
The Prime Minister expressed satisfaction over the improved economic indicators, saying the economy is gradually heading towards stability.
He mentioned that the country's stock exchange has touched the historic peak level, while inflation has come down to a single digit and policy rate reduced from twenty two percent to fifteen percent. He said record increase has been witnessed in IT exports while there is also significant surge in remittances.
Shehbaz Sharif was appreciative of the role played by the provincial governments and institutions in taking the economy towards improvement. He also acknowledged the support extended by the provinces in securing the IMF Program.
The Prime Minister emphasized the need for collective efforts to take the country forward on the path of development.
Regretting the politics of sit-ins, the Prime Minister highlighted the importance of political stability for economic development.
Besides others, the meeting was attended by the Federal Ministers, the Provincial Chief Ministers and Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir.
