Minister for Power, Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari has strongly criticized former Finance Minister Miftah Ismail for misleading the nation through presenting incorrect and vague statistics regarding solar energy.
In a statement, he said promotion of renewable energy is a top priority of the government as it has encouraged the public to install solar panels.
The Power Minister said the prices of solar panels have decreased as a result of changes in net-metering regulations. He said more than four thousand megawatts of electricity from solar energy has been added into national grid owing to the solar net metering policy.
He said the capacity of solar net metering will witness an increase of twelve thousand megawatts in the next eight years.
The Minister made it clear that agreements of the current net metering consumers will remain according to the old rates.
He said the price of net-metering is adjusted in many countries to avoid unnecessary burden on the national grid and the economy.
Sardar Awais Leghari said the incumbent government is making concerted efforts to improve the economy, energy and agriculture sectors.
He said revision of contracts with IPPs has resulted in a benefit of more than fifteen hundred billion rupees, which will be passed on to the public through reduced electricity prices very soon.
He said the share of clean green energy on the national grid will reach eighty-five percent in the next few years.
The Minister said Miftah Ismail also made unwarranted criticism regarding shortage and export of sugar.
He said the government, in fact, took timely decisions to stabilize supply of wheat and sugar.
