Ashrafi rejects US designation on religious freedom

Special Representative to the Prime Minister on Religious Harmony Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi has rejected the US designation of Pakistan as a country of particular concern as a biased decision.

Addressing a news conference in Lahore today [Saturday], he said Constitution of Pakistan guarantees the rights of minorities in the country.

Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi maintained that Islam, being protector of the rights of minorities, gives the message of tolerance, peace and love.

The Special Representative urged the religious scholars to play their role in promoting religious harmony, tolerance and co-existence in society.
