Bangladesh's Supreme Court has scrapped most of the quotas on government jobs that triggered deadly protests.

The court’s Appellate Division dismissed a lower court order that had reinstated the quotas last month.

The court directed that 93 per cent of government jobs will be open to candidates on merit.

Meanwhile, the death toll has climbed to one hundred and twenty three due to the violent clash between students and police.
