Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has directed to evolve a comprehensive legal framework on permanent basis regarding Federal Board of Revenue recoveries.
He expressed these views while chairing a meeting to appreciate the efforts of Ministers and officers for the recovery of 34.5 billion rupees and review reforms in Federal Board of Revenue in Islamabad today.
Appreciating the recovery within twenty-four hours, the Prime Minister said the entire nation is grateful to relevant ministers and officers for benefiting the national treasury by recovery of 34.5 billion rupees.
He said hard work and dedication, based on sincerity, definitely lead to such kind of excellent results.
Shehbaz Sharif termed the recovery a good start and stressed on establishing a sustainable system on permanent basis.
He also directed to formulate and present a plan of action regarding reforms in the FBR and ensuring implementation of tax laws. He also instructed to formulate a plan to improve the FBR's workforce.
He said one hundred percent digitization, third-party validation, and continuous monitoring will lead of improvement in the system. He directed to take strict action against such officers and employees who are found to be involved in any kind of corruption.
Shehbaz Sharif also directed to ensure appreciation of performance of the officers and employees, who demonstrate good performance.He vowed to make all out efforts to protect every penny of the people.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister was briefed on tax cases pending in the courts and the steps taken by the government team for recovery.
Chairman FBR Rashid Mahmood Langrial briefed the Prime Minister on the reforms of the FBR's Directorate of Law, digital algorithms for tax audits, performance appraisal of tax officers, as well as the ongoing reforms of the FBR as a whole.
