President, PM reaffirm commitment to energy conservation
March 22, 2025

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif have said that we stand with the global community in reaffirming our commitment to energy conservation, environmental sustainability, and climate action.

In his message on the occasion of Earth Hour and World Water Day 2025 today (Saturday), the President said as we switch off non-essential lights, let this act serve as a symbol of our resolve to reduce energy consumption, minimize our carbon footprint and protect Pakistan’s ecosystems.

He said we must build climate-resilient infrastructure, prevent water pollution and promote sustainable agricultural practices.

He urged all Pakistanis to conserve electricity, fuel and water, embrace sustainable habits and take responsibility for a greener and more resilient Pakistan.

In his message on the occasion, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the government is actively pursuing policies that integrate climate action across all sectors with initiatives designed to build resilience and sustainability.

He said our commitment to renewable energy expansion, plastic waste reduction and green job creation is laying the foundation for long-term environmental stewardship.

He said, however, policies alone are not enough and true change begins at home.

The Prime Minister said every action, no matter how small, strengthens the collective momentum toward a sustainable tomorrow.

Meanwhile, every year on this day, millions of people around the world observe earth day and come together for one hour to show they care about the future of our planet.

People turn off their lights for Earth Hour at 8.30 pm in their local times.
