Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal has called for a technology alliance between Pakistan and ASEAN to promote inclusive prosperity.

Addressing ASEAN-Pakistan Technology Expo in Islamabad on Tuesday, he said Pakistan is deeply committed to a future driven by innovation and technology. He said our vision is to make Pakistan a knowledge economy that empowers the youth, strengthens its industries and plays a meaningful role in regional cooperation.

The Minister for Planning said that Pakistan greatly values its partnership with ASEAN and sees immense potential in deepening ties in science, technology and innovation. He proposed the establishment of Pakistan-ASEAN technology cooperation forum to identify projects and share innovation. He said joint academic programs, student and faculty exchanges and dual degree programs would accelerate cross-cultural innovation.

Ahsan Iqbal emphasized the need for establishment of ASEAN-Pakistan centers of excellence in areas such as Artificial Intelligence, cyber security, renewable energy and climate smart agriculture. He said our industries should be encouraged to co-develop products and prototypes that meet the needs of global South.

He said both Pakistan and ASEAN can work together on low carbon technologies, circular energy models and climate resilient tools, emphasizing that they should prioritize technology for social inclusion.
