National Assembly continues discussion on budget

The National Assembly is continuing discussion on the budget for the year 2023-24 and the recommendations made by the Senate for inclusion in the finance bill.

Participating in the discussion, Shazia Marri said the government presented a good budget despite financial and economic constraints.

She said deliberate efforts will have to be made to strengthen democracy and the economy in the country.

She said the Pakistan People’s Party and other coalition partners joined the unity government led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to achieve this objective as per spirit of the Constitution.

She said PPP’s martyred leader and former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto had signed the famous Charter of Democracy with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz to bring political stability to the country.

She said this spirit is the need of the hour and everyone should sit together for the stability and prosperity of Pakistan.

Talking about measures to alleviate poverty and to ensure social protection to the poor, Shazia Marri said the budget for the BISP has significantly been increased.

Muhammad Khan Daha commended the government for presenting an agriculture friendly budget. He said high quality seeds should be introduced to enhance the agri yield.

Mahar Irshad Ahmad Khan said solar system should be provided free of cost to the farmers to reduce their input cost. 

Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh said Pakistan is a solvent country and it will not default. He said pessimism should not be spread about the economy.

Those who spoke on the occasion include Pir Ameer Ali Shah Jeelani and Muhammad Israr Tareen.
