Growing incidents of cross-border terrorism and infiltration from Afghanistan under the Taliban regime have raised security concerns among neighbouring countries.
According to Afghan media outlet Afghanistan International, Chinese border authorities have warned the Taliban to leave the area immediately following reports of infiltration through the Wakhan Corridor.
China has tightened security along its border with Afghanistan since the Taliban’s return to power, installing barbed-wire fencing and surveillance cameras.
China has kept the Wakhan border crossing with Afghanistan closed amid concerns over the potential infiltration of terrorists.
