Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar has said scope of the PECA Amendment Act is limited to digital media and will not affect electronic and print media.

Talking to the media at the Parliament House in Islamabad this evening, he said the PECA Amendment Bill is an important step towards the protection of working journalists.

The Minister said the bill proposes laws for the regulation of the digital media, while rules and regulations for the print and the electronic media already exist in the country.

The Minister said rules for digital media are need of the hour as anyone can say anything on these platforms.

Attaullah Tarar further said the government believes in consultation with media bodies including Parliamentary Reporters Association, Joint Action Committee, PBA, and APNS. He said they are always welcome to come and discuss this issue.
