In India, a court has sentenced opposition leader in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi to two years in prison founding him guilty of defamation case.

The court in city of Surat in Gujarat state found Rahul Gandhi guilty for a speech he made in 2019 in which he referred to thieves as having the surname Modi.

The Congress party has announced to appeal against the order in a higher court.
