PMC to improve medical education: Dr. Zafar

Special Assistant on National Health Services Dr. Zafar Mirza says Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) has been established to improve medical education and practice to level of international standards.

Addressing a news conference in Islamabad on Wednesday, he said PMC will provide a better mechanism for medical licensing, education and examination system.

The Special Assistant said Pakistan Medical and Dental Council was inefficient to match the pace of medical developments in the world.

Elaborating working of newly established commission, he said PMC will consist of three sections which are Pakistan Medical and Dental Council, National Medical and Dental Academic Board and National Medical Authority. He said PMDC will devise policies whereas NMDB will be responsible to set up standards for licensing, medical education and examinations.

He said National Medical Authority will run a mechanism to implement policies and decisions.

Dr Zafar Mirza said one entry test for medical colleges will be held across the country. He said doctors will have to pass National Licensing Examination to start their medical practice.

He said to facilitate doctors first NLE will be introduced after March, 2020.

He said PMC Ordinance 2019 will also be laid before parliament in form of a bill.
