Monsoon heavy rains expected in first week of July: NDMA

National Disaster Management Authority has warned that with beginning of the Monsoon heavy rains are expected in different parts of the country, including Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir, in the first week of the upcoming month.

Moderate to very heavy rains may increase the water flows in local nullahs, streams, and rivers causing flash flooding in vulnerable areas.  

The monsoon rains may trigger hill torrents in vulnerable areas of Dera Ismail Khan, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Rajanpur along with Suleman and Kirthar Ranges. Besides, there may be urban flooding in vulnerable areas across the country.

The rains may trigger landslides in the vulnerable areas of Murree, Galiyat, Azad Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan and mountainous areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

The NDMA further said that dust and wind-thunderstorms as well as heavy falls may cause damage to loose structures and advised people to remain updated regarding the anticipated weather.
