Over 1000 pilgrims died during Hajj at Mashair
June 24, 2024

Over one thousand pilgrims, including thirteen Pakistani Hujjaj have died during Hajj in Mashair.

Quoting Saudi officials, Radio Pakistan Correspondent Bilal Khan Mehsud reports from Madinah that 1,301 pilgrims died during their stay in Mina, Arafat and Muzdalifa as a consequence of climate change in the region.

He said 83 percent of the mortalities were of unauthorized pilgrims who walked long distances under direct sunlight, without adequate shelter.

It is expected that next year’s Hajj would be the last pilgrimage falling in the extreme weather.

It is pertinent to mention that Saudi Authorities had made significant efforts to create awareness about the hot weather and preventive measures to prevent illness and fatigue.

Besides, the Saudi health system addressed numerous cases of heat stress this year, with some individuals are still under care.
