Myanmar's military has conducted air raids and used heavy artillery on a rebel-held area near the border with Thailand, and compelled hundreds of people to flee across a river into the neighbouring country.

According to Thailand's foreign ministry, fresh fighting between the Myanmar military and the Karen National Union broke out last week, compelled over 4,200 people to cross into Thailand.
