A passenger plane flying from Azerbaijan to Russia crashed near the city of Aktau in Kazakhstan today with 62 passengers and five crew members on board.

According to Kazakh authorities, there are 28 survivors that are being treated for injuries while further rescue work is underway.

President Asif Ali Zardari has expressed deep grief over the tragic crash of an Azerbaijani airliner near Aktau, Kazakhstan, in which precious human lives have been lost.            

In a statement today, he extended his heartfelt condolences to President Ilham Aliyev, the government, and the people of Azerbaijan, sharing their grief. 

The President also conveyed his sympathies to the bereaved families, emphasizing that Pakistan stands with them during this difficult time.
