The government has decided to close three hundred and ninety two substandard seed companies immediately.
The decision to this effect was taken at the second meeting of the Board of Governors of the National Seed Development and Regulatory Authority in Islamabad today with Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain in the chair.
On this occasion, the Minister said that difficult decisions like this will ensure long-term improvements in Pakistan's agriculture, benefiting farmers and ensuring national food security.
The board members also unanimously agreed that decisive action is necessary to ensure high-quality seed production in the country.
Meanwhile, third-party audit of seed companies was also discussed in detail.
