UN General Assembly has adopted a resolution that would require five permanent members of Security Council to justify their use of the veto in future.
Pakistan backed the resolution, sponsored by 83 members, was adopted by consensus.
Speaking in explanation of his vote, Pakistan's Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Aamir Khan highlighted a paragraph in the resolution and said its provisions are without prejudice to Intergovernmental Negotiations on Security Council reform.
The resolution accords on an exceptional basis to the General Assembly to automatically meet within 10 days, if the veto is used in the Security Council by one of its five permanent members.
