February 28, 2025

A national debate on "gender budgeting" was organized by the Center for Research and Dialogue in Islamabad.

During the debate, speakers highlighted the pressing challenges faced by women in Pakistan across various sectors, including health, education, employment and political representation.

Emphasizing gender budgeting as a solution, they stressed the need for equitable distribution of resources to promote gender equality.

Speaking at the debate, Dr. Sajid Amin Javed explained that gender budgeting ensures the fair allocation of government funds to meet the needs of all societal groups. This approach does not entail separate budgets for men and women but aims to achieve equal opportunities for every individual.

Journalist Sabookh Syed underscored the low literacy rate among girls in Pakistan, advocating for increased funding for girls' education and health services through gender budgeting.

Participants concluded that effective implementation of gender budgeting is crucial for Pakistan’s development and stability. They urged the government to consider the needs of marginalized groups in future budget plans to ensure the proper use of public funds.
