June 29, 2026

Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi says the government is taking comprehensive steps to modernize the country's railway infrastructure.

Talking to the media in Rawalpindi today, he announced that all trains, including Tezgam and Karachi Express, will be refurbished by June next year.

The Minister said forty-three locomotives are being allocated for freight operations to boost economic activity, while sixteen new power coaches will be added to the railway fleet by the end of this year. He said the remaining ninety power coaches will be overhauled on a priority basis.

Turning to employees' welfare, Hanif Abbasi highlighted that international-standard guard and driver rooms have been developed at Rawalpindi Railway Station. He assured that these state-of-the-art facilities will soon be replicated in other major stations, including Lahore, Karachi, Rohri, and Khanewal.

The Minister said the entrance of the Rawalpindi Railway Station is being upgraded on the pattern of the Lahore Railway Station.

He emphasized that prudent measures taken by the incumbent administration have successfully reduced the operational costs of Pakistan Railways.
