Taliban say that they have taken control of the Kabul airport following withdrawal of the U.S. troops from Afghanistan.
Talking to media at Hamid Karzai International Airport, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid hailed the departure of the US troops as a historic moment, declaring that country has now gained full independence.
He said that we do not have any doubt that the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan is a free and sovereign nation, saying that Americans could not achieve their goal through military operations.
He rejected having a caretaker government and insisted that Kabul remained safe.
He also promised that Afghanistan is utmost trying to boost working diplomatic relations with the West and rest of the world as well, vowing that Afghans will protect independence and Islamic values.
Earlier, The United States has completed withdrawal of its forces from Afghanistan, ending the 20 years of invasion into the country.
In press briefing in Washington, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said the withdrawal from Afghanistan was a massive military, diplomatic and humanitarian undertaking and one of the most challenging the United States has ever carried out.
He said the United States has suspended its diplomatic presence in Kabul and transferred its operations to Doha.
