The World Bank Group's Board of Executive Directors has approved 150 million dollars in financing for a programme aimed at improving urban property tax collection and strengthening municipal service delivery in Sindh, particularly Karachi.

In a news release issued today, World Bank Country Director for Pakistan Bolormaa Amgaabazar said local councils in Sindh currently rely on provincial transfers for more than 95 percent of their revenues.

She said the Sindh Property Revenues Enhancement Programme would support the provincial government in enhancing urban immovable property tax collection and strengthening the service delivery capacity of selected local councils.

The programme is expected to help improve the financial sustainability of local governments and enhance the delivery of essential municipal services.
