Dr. Huma Baqai (IR Expert): The on ground situation in Afghanistan is not pretty. The United States is leaving Afghanistan in a state of chaos and anarchy. Afghan Taliban have claimed of capturing 85% of total area of Afghanistan and internal displacement is already happening there. Taliban have occupied these area mostly without any resistance from the Afghan forces or the locals. Afghan Taliban have assured that they will not allow Afghan soil to be used against any country. Being major stakeholders, Afghan Taliban may give a formula for political settlement in the country. Afghan soldiers have already fled to neighboring countries including Iran and Tajikistan. Pakistan is not in a position to host more Afghan refugees as we are already hosting a large number of them for many decades. Islamabad, Beijing, Moscow and Tehran are important regional stakeholders and these capitals should not support any specific group in Afghanistan. Rather, they must ensure collective efforts for sustainable peace and stability in Afghanistan.
