Ashfaq Yousaf Tola (Economist): Tax reforms are the need of the hour in order to increase the tax collection. There is a process of progress and improvement everywhere but in the case of Pakistan we are trying to bring in reforms that are never delivered in the true sense. The government is walking on a tightrope as on the one hand it had to protect the ordinary man, while on the other it would have to remain in the IMF programme and those two are contradictory situations. Moreover, the government should not impose extra taxes, which would have a direct impact on the common man and consequently, weighing various options to protect the common man. A flat taxation system would help fast economic growth and reduce the complexities.
