July 01, 2022

Mirza Ikhtiyar Baig (Industrialist): Karot project has been online and will contribute in a great way to reduce the shortfall of electricity in the country. 9000 MW is a huge gap between demand and supply. You have to go to alternative sources of energy for producing power. Currently, power mix is very expensive. We can utilize wind, solar, hydro and nuclear to ensure increasing energy supply as well as meeting the demand of the country. It will also help producing cheaper energy and our oil import bill will reduce significantly.

Dr. Musadik Malik (Minister of State for Energy): Present government is committed to overcome energy scarcity in the country and has been taking all necessary steps in this regard. Karot project will be help in meeting the acute energy shortages in the country. It is a landmark project that is being completed in cooperation with Chinese help. Both Pakistan and China are committed to complete all energy and infrastructure projects in the country on time.

Dr. Gulfraz Ahmad (Energy Expert): The whole world is facing energy crisis due to a number of factors. The world is moving toward a growth phase after the pandemic, putting huge demand of oil and gas. The four top oil producers are out of oil market and there is more pressure on existing suppliers. Due to Russia-Ukraine war, Europe has imposed sanctions on the former and placed big orders for this commodity from other producers. Pakistan is facing troubles of getting gas from Qatar and other LNG producers due to this issue. A number of energy projects started by previous governments have now started producing electricity which will help meet the energy demand. It is need of the hour that people install solar panels on their homes to reduce burden on national grid.
