‘Pakistan and Saudi Arabia enjoy long-standing and historic fraternal relations’
November 01, 2021

Najam-ul-Saqib (Former Ambassador): Pakistan wanted to expand relations with Saudi Arabia in the areas of culture, information, media, entertainment, sports and areas of climate change. Prime Minister Imran Khan held a three-day visit to attend the launch ceremony of the 'Middle East Green Initiative Summit' being held in Riyadh. Saudi Arabia announcement support Pakistan with 3 billion US dollars as deposit in Pakistan central bank and also financing refined petroleum product with 1.2 billion US dollars during the year. The principal stand of Saudi Arabia on Afghanistan are the same and both the countries urging the world to support the Afghan people in the crucial times in order to avert any humanitarian crises in future.

Shahid Amin (Former Ambassador): The two countries have supported each other in times of war and peace. The relations between both the countries is important in so many aspects including defense, Economy, trade, labor force and others. Recently, Prime Minister paid a visit to Saudi Arabia and Saudi Arabia has agreed to revive its financial support to Pakistan, including about USD Three billion in safe deposits and oil supplies on deferred payments. Pakistan is an important Islamic country and can play an important role to bridge the difference between the Muslim countries. Religious affinity and pro-Saudi and pro-royalty sentiment in Pakistan is always stronger. Moreover, on the Afghanistan peace process, like Pakistan, Saudi Arabia also called for an inclusive, broad-based and comprehensive political settlement as the only way forward, agreeing to continue mutual consultations.

Dr. Khurram Iqbal (IR Expert):If we look into Pak-Australia relations, these are the most under-utilized bilateral relations between both the countries. But fortunately, there is a tremendous scope of strengthening the bilateral relations. There is a very strong Pakistani dicepora living in Australia and playing an important role in Australian politics and serving different state departments there. Australia has huge potential of capacity building and human resource development and already giving thousands of scholarships to Pakistani students. Australia since the start has been acknowledging Pakistan's narrative on Kashmir issue. It is unfortunate that in recent days the Pak-Australia bilateral relations are not solid and must be. However, Australia can support Pakistan to a great extent in water resource management and boosting agriculture sector of Pakistan. It is the need of the hour to promote bilateral relations in order to achieve shared regional objectives.

Sarwat Saba (PTI Leader, Gilgit Baltistan): Every year people of Gilgit-Baltistan celebrate Independence Day of Gilgit Baltistan with traditional zeal and fervor. Certain processions, rallies and special programs were held in all the ten districts of Gilgit Baltistan and the main function was held at Gilgit Chinar Bagh, where Chief Minister GB Khalid Khurshid was the chief guest. On this special day our heroes liberated this part of land from the Dogra rules without any outside help and we must remember the sacrifices of our forefathers. Following the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan, the provincial government is determined to take Gilgit on the way to prosperity.  Governor Raja Jalal Hussain Maqpoon, Chief Minister Khalid Khurshid, Force Commander and Chief Secretary Gilgit-Baltistan laid wreath at the Yadgare shodha and offered prayers. The federal government is focused on accelerating the pace of work on various development projects in Gilgit-Baltistan by taking effective measures to ensure delegation of administrative and financial powers. The incumbent government is also stressing the importance of developing facilities for tourism in the region.
