The 22nd death anniversary of renowned Urdu writer and translator Muhammad Khalid Akhtar was observed on Friday.
Born in Bahawalpur, Muhammad Khalid Akhtar received his early education from the prestigious Sadiq Public School and Sadiq Egerton College Bahawalpur.
He remained Editor of college magazine 'Nakhlistan-e-Adab' , which enriched his literary prowess.
Khalid Akhtar started his professional career as an engineer. As a writer, he gained wide recognition through his novel, "Chakiwaarra Main Wisaal".
Drama, fiction, comedy, novel and travelogues were hallmarks of his writing.
Khalid Akhtar's famous books include 'Khoya Hua Ufaq', 'Do Safar', 'Laaltain', 'Bees So Giyaara', 'Makateb-e-Khizar', 'Rait Per Lakeerain' and 'Ibn-e-Jabir Ka Safarnama'.
Pakistan Television dramatised his series of short stories titled 'Chacha Abdul Baqi' during the golden age of TV in the country which further elevated his literary stature.
Khalid Akhtar received several national awards including the Adamjee Literary Award.
He died on this day in 2002 in Karachi.
